Excellent for patients with hallux limitus / rigidus. This insole provides stabilization of the painful joint by controlling movement and consequent pain relief. Handmade in Germany.

Indications:

- Pain in the metatarsophalangeal joint of the first digit

- Hallux limitus / rigidus

- Metatarsalgia

Benefits:

- Relief of pain and/or pressure on the metatarsophalangeal joint of the metatarsophalangeal joint

- Hydrofresh top cover keeps feet cool

- More extensive base layer limits movement of the movement of the metatarsophalangeal joint and supports the longitudinal arch.

Every day during walking the first toe and its joint with the metatarsal is subjected to a lot of pressure/force equal to twice your body weight. Hallux rigidus refers to a limitation of mobility of the metatarsophalangeal hallux joint, i.e. a problem affecting the first toe; characterised by difficulty in bending the toe, joint weakness, disabling pain and or joint stiffness.

Hallux Rigidus - What is it?

Hallux rigidus is a form of degenerative arthritis that over time decreases the motion of the first toe.

Progression of the pathology:

This pathology at an initial stage the movement of the first finger is only with limited joint movement and at this stage is characterized by hallux limitus, but over time the joint range of motion gradually decreases until it reaches a final stage of complete rigidity - hallux rigidus.

First signs and symptoms:

- Pain and stiffness in the first toe during walking;

- Pain and stiffness aggravated by low and humid temperatures;

- Difficulty with certain activities such as running and squatting;

- Swelling and inflammation around the joint.

As the disease becomes more severe additional symptoms may arise, such as:

- Pain even during rest;

- Difficulty in putting on shoes due to the presence of bone exostoses (overgrowth of the bone);

- Intense pain in the knee, hip and lumbar region due to biomechanical alterations of the foot and ascending chain;

- Claudication in more severe cases.

What causes hallux rigidus?

This pathology may occur in young adults, namely in young athletes such as football players, ballet dancers workers with dynamic work with load manipulation, workers with static work but with squatting movements, but most often affects individuals over 50 years of age.

The common causes of hallux rigidus are essentially biomechanical and structural of the foot: interphalangeal hypermobility, forefoot supination, pronation of the subastragaline joint which can lead to osteoarthritis in the first toe joint. This type of arthritis which is the result of "wear and tear" of the joint.

Advice for choosing a size: You should choose the size below the one you usually wear.

Multi-layer material composition:
