The Medi Junior insoles, made in Germany, are specially designed for optimal foot orientation in children and for valgus foot.
What is a valgus or flat foot?
Valgus foot, or flat foot, is when there is a decrease or absence of the arch of the foot, so that the whole foot touches the ground. Due to the change in the foot, there may be pain and difficulty walking, heel pain, imbalance and an increased risk of injury.
At what age can flatfoot be diagnosed?
All children are born with flatfoot (congenital). After the age of 3 / 4 years children start to develop the arch in the sole of their feet (infantile flatfoot). It is very important that the diagnosis is made as early as possible, because flatfoot can sometimes cause some complications as you can see below.
Complications of flatfoot:
More severe cases of flatfoot causing a lot of pain or people with other foot, ankle or leg problems can develop complications when treatment is not instituted in a timely manner, namely:
- Plantar fasciitis;
- Achilles tendon tendonitis
- Ankle arthritis
- Foot arthritis;
- Bunions and overload of the 1st toe joint;
- Tendinosis of the Tibialis posterior muscle;
- Myositis of the adductor of the 1st toe and posterior tibial;
- Joint stiffness;
- Metatarsalgia (inflammation due to overload of the anterior region of the foot);
- Ankle sprains;
Can flat or valgus feet be cured? What should I look out for?
- This condition is very common in children and young people. In order to avoid postural deviations, bone and ligament weakness, the use of specific insoles helps the correct development of bones and ligaments to avoid injuries and/or bad posture of the feet during growth.
- If there are other consequences such as swelling of the lower limbs, the use of elastic stockings or elastic feet may be recommended, depending on the area of swelling.
- It is recommended to promote barefoot walking on uneven flooring (sand, grass, etc.) to strengthen the intrinsic muscles of the foot;
- Physiotherapy-guided exercises for muscle strengthening, balance training, prevention and treatment of ankle instability;
